Zenova Group PLC (AIM: ZED), a provider of innovative fire safety and heat management technology and products, is pleased to report that the results of a recent test confirmed the insulation qualities of its Zenova IP thermal insulation paint and Zenova IR thermal insulation render.
The test was carried out by a leading independent testing company, Intertek, in accordance with testing standard ASTM D4803 to confirm how Zenova IP thermal insulation paint and Zenova IR thermal insulation render reduces heat build-up on steel surfaces.
In real world situations, heat build-up relates to the amount of heat absorbed by a surface, which then increases the ambient air temperature around the material and on the material’s reverse side. It is the reason why the temperature in uninsulated structures such as shipping containers and modular buildings can rise considerably when exposed to prolonged sunshine and hot external temperatures.
The test, which was carried out in laboratory conditions, found that:
- A 1.33mm coating of Zenova IP thermal insulation paint reduced the rise in ambient air temperature on the opposite side of a steel sheet by 55% compared to an untreated control sample
- A 5mm coating of Zenova IR thermal insulation render reduced the rise in ambient air temperature on the opposite side of a steel sheet by 54%, compared to an untreated control sample
The following is a summary of Intertek’s finding:
The following diagram illustrates the test results in simple terms:

Commenting on the results of the test, Tony Crawley, Chief Executive of Zenova Group PLC said: “The results from this test are hugely pleasing and reinforce the thermal insulation qualities of Zenova’s insulation render and paint.
“In simple terms, the steel sheets coated with Zenova IR thermal insulation render and Zenova IP thermal insulation paint absorbed and emitted far less heat on their uncoated side than the plain steel sheet, with the ambient temperature around their uncoated sides rising 54-55% less than on the plain steel sheet.
“In practical terms, these results confirm that Zenova IR thermal insulation render and Zenova thermal insulation paint can have a dramatic impact on reducing heat ingress and absorption, and we believe there a numerous applications for them across multiple sectors.
“For instance, in the refrigerated transport and cold chain sector, reducing heat build-up on surfaces can dramatically reduce the cooling load, which helps save energy, money and carbon emissions. In the oil and gas sector, reducing the absorption of heat into pipelines and infrastructure can reduce stress on services, and increase the durability and resilience of systems. And, in the construction sector, the reduction in heat absorption and insulation benefits of Zenova’s products has applications in homes, commercial, industrial and modular buildings, where they can help improve insulation, reduce cooling loads and generally improve thermal comfort for occupants and residents.
“We believe that Zenova’s transparent approach to testing, with all test results published on our website, is important as it builds awareness, understanding and trust in an innovative range of products which, we believe, have an important role to play in helping solve important issues surrounding insulation and fire safety.”

About Zenova Group PLC:
The Group, through Zenova Ltd, is the holder of intellectual property that underpins a suite of fire safety and temperature management products and technology. The product range is applicable to industrial, commercial, and residential markets. The Group’s products include fire retardant paints, insulating paints and render, fire extinguishing fluid and applications. Through innovative development, and a refined formulation and development process, Zenova provides industry leading solutions across a range of fire protection and temperature management problems, comprising:
Thermal insulating paint that creates a thermal barrier, provides thermal reflection of sunrays & infrared radiation, anti-condensation and anti-mould properties. It can be applied to virtually any exterior or interior material, regardless of the surface.
Thermal insulating render to enhance the effectiveness of insulation by creating a thermo shield. It fills all cavities and gaps regardless of geometric shape and creates a vacuum – the most effective insulator.
The Group has achieved this without compromising the sustainability of natural and economical resources, including personal health and safety, with ecologically sound products.
