Background and Aim
Solar panelling on roofs is an energy efficiency retrofit solution but one which increases the fire risk of the roof should the solar panels malfunction or short circuit.
Zenova conducted a test to show how the internal insulation within sandwich board roof panels can combust without adequate protection
Testing
A project in Greece used Zenova FP combined with Zenova IP for managing fire risk protection of a new solar installation on an existing metal panel polyurethane insulated sandwich board roof construction.
- Metal panel polyurethane-insulated sandwich board roof construction
- 1.0mm of ZENOVA FP as fire protection
- 0.5mm of ZENOVA IP as a topcoat and additional thermal insulation
Results
Zenova FP helps reduce the risk of fire spread to the external roof area should the solar panels malfunction. This risk reduction makes a key difference in insurance for buildings that are fitted with solar panels.
Zenova IP applied as a topcoat adds further cooling insulation benefits for the internal building temperatures.
