The reaction to fire classification of Zenova FP on plywood as per BS EN 13501-1 is B – s2, d0.
This side-by-side demonstration clearly shows the effectiveness of our Zenova FP Fire Protection Paint on timber. We setup 2 identical pieces of dry timber and applied 2 coats of Zenova FP to the timber sample on the right. We then lit and placed 2 identical torches at the same distance from each sample, applying concentrated direct intense heat/flame to one spot on each sample, and started the clock.
As you can see, on the sample treated with Zenova FP on the right hand side, a black protective char coating forms very quickly, protecting the substrate from heat and swelling further as time passes. This char absorbs the majority of the heat and flame and protects the substrate from being affected by the intense heat of the torch.
As indicated by the heat gun in the video, the swelled black char portion of Zenova FP reaches a staggering 500C, while the back side remains cool at just 40C.
After 8 minutes the untreated sample has burnt all the way through to the other side, while the sample protected with Zenova FP is still very much intact and continues to be a solid piece of timber, unaffected by the intense direct flame.
